About the Event

Please note that this is a past event.

Solid state lighting is the current Holy Grail of lighting efficiency, as demonstrated by the DOE's recent Lighting Prize challenge, and the overwhelming focus on LEDs at the most recent Lightfair. The intense focus on the promise of LED's is heralding a new age of dimmable, long-lasting, versatile, color-correct, cheap (to operate) lighting. But are we really there yet?

This latest Oppositions, presented by Green Light New York and Urban Green Council, in affiliation with IESNYC, will take a look at the many facets of LEDs.

  • What LEDs are ready now, and for what applications?
  • Is all the attention focused on LEDs crowding out simple, more cost-effective lighting options?
  • Does the volatile nature of this emerging technology have the potential to backfire, when beta and first generation products don't live up to the promised potential and consumers get turned off (à la CFLs)?
LEDs on Trial will answer these and other questions, including what you need to know about LEDs; appropriate applications; the current state of lamps and fixtures; and what to expect in the near future.
