Reflecting the Sky: A Presentation of the Fulton Transit Center Oculus

Join Green Light New York and James Carpenter the morning ofDecember 11th for a presentation and discussion of one of the largest, and most
elaborate art and daylight installations in the U.S.: The Fulton Transit
Center’s Sky Reflector-Net.

Located in Downtown Manhattan, the highly anticipated Fulton
Transit Center will serve over 300,000 passengers everyday connecting a vast network
of subway lines and trains. This extensive transit hub features the Sky
Reflector-Net – a remarkable structure that draws natural light deep into the
interior. Hundreds of prismatic glass and aluminum panels are suspended in an
elegant cone shape, an extraordinary display of daylight in a public space. Redefining
the ambiance in transit centers, the Sky Reflector-Net will illuminate its
interior shops, restaurants, passageways and even subway platforms.

The Sky Reflector-Net is an art, engineering, and
architectural collaboration with James Carpenter Design Associates, Grimshaw
Architects, Arup, and the MTA.

James Carpenter, the lead designer of the Sky Reflector-Net
will present the design and construction of this remarkable oculus and the
impact of daylighting in this public space. Following his presentation, Mr.
Carpenter will discuss the challenges and vision behind the Sky Reflector-Net
with other constituents of the project team.
