Presented by PropTech Challenge in partnership with NYSERDA, REBNY, and Building Energy Exchange
Join us for a vibrant discussion and showcase of submissions from the Tenant Energy Data category of this year’s PropTech Challenge: a maker event series that connects innovative problem solvers with the leaders of NYC real estate. Founded at the REBNY Tech Hackathon in 2017, the fifth challenge is a data science competition to help fight climate change.
Large NYC office buildings saw their occupancy rates drop by 90% on average last year due to COVID-19, but their energy only dropped by 20-30%. While lease obligations and healthcare protocols contributed, there is still a surprising amount of previously untracked vampiric loads within these buildings.
NYSERDA challenged data scientists and modeling enthusiasts to use a real-world test set to predict actual electricity consumption in a 7-floor Midtown Manhattan headquarters on August 31, 2020 (the day after the test set ends), with cash prizes included in each award category. Submissions were due on March 26, 2021.
These submissions will serve as a foundation to facilitate a data driven conversation around energy consumption drivers and insightful strategies for achieving energy reduction goals. Our goal is to highlight the importance of these conversations, surface innovative strategies to reduce energy use, and encourage all stakeholders to work together to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the built world.
During this Virtual Demo Day, participants will hear from our challenge sponsor NYSERDA as well as our industry leading judges. The highest scoring submissions will be awarded live before opening the audience Q&A.
