Thursday July 7th, 2022
6:00 pm to 7:15 pm

Grab your beverage and snack of choice and meet us online for the next WISE Media Club, on July 7, 6:00PM – 7:15PM ET. (*Note: Space is limited to preserve a participation-based discussion format. Please notify us 24-hours in advance if you will be unable to attend.)

We often hear that eating vegan is better for the environment than eating meat, due to relatively less energy and fewer resources needed for farming and production. But on the journey from farm to table, other components of the food system that we don’t often measure – from transportation and storage to cooking – can tip the carbon scale in unexpected ways. Join Women in Sustainability & Energy (WISE) for a community conversation about the climate impacts of food, taking a deeper look at climate-friendly diets and the surprising impacts of cooking methods and appliances on the carbon footprint of our meals.

BE-Ex staff will kick off the conversation and help to facilitate an interactive, roundtable discussion among attendees. We look forward to hearing from you– please come prepared to share thoughts on the following items:
1. BBC Article, “The Climate Benefits of Veganism and Vegetarianism,” by Martha Henriques and Zaria Gorvett
2. New York Times Article, “The Case for Induction Cooking” by Melissa Clark
3. Infographic from Cold Chain Hub (coldchainhub.org), “Why Temperature Monitoring is Important when Shipping Cold Chain Assets.”

BONUS: Count the carbon of your last meal using the Take a Bite Out Of Climate Change carbon calculator.

The “WISE Media Club” was developed in March 2020 as a creative way to keep the WISE (Women in Sustainability & Energy) community spirit alive and to facilitate remote interaction during this time of social distancing. This recurring media club will cover podcasts, videos, and articles that touch on climate action, the built environment, and new challenges and opportunities created by the COVID pandemic. We’re excited to host this platform and look forward to seeing and hearing from the community.
