Join NYSERDA and BE-Ex for our third NYSERDA Buildings of Excellence Gallery Talk, featuring Sendero Verde and Cornell Tech, two transformative Passive House buildings and Buildings of Excellence award recipients.
Last year, the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) revealed their $30 million Buildings of Excellence competition, recognizing low- and zero-carbon emitting buildings. NYSERDA President and CEO, Alicia Barton, announced the competition during the Buildings of Excellence Launch here at BE-Ex.
The Buildings of Excellence competition is an innovative effort to advance climate action goals across New York State by incentivizing the design, construction, and operation of buildings that improve quality of life with little or no carbon impact. This past October, NYSERDA announced round one award winners for 26 projects in the categories of Early Design, Late Design, Under Construction and Post-Completion Performance Optimization.
In partnership with NYSERDA, the Building Energy Exchange is hosting a series of gallery talks dedicated to a range of design strategies, building systems, and case studies that provide potential pathways to net-zero building performance.
Featured Projects
Sendero Verde is a mixed-use and multi-building development in South Harlem seeking Passive House certification. The design includes nearly 700 designated affordable housing units, a school, extensive community space, outdoor gardens, and retail space. Once complete, Sendero Verde will be the largest fully affordable Passive House building in the world.
The House is the residential component at Cornell Tech’s Roosevelt Island campus in New York City, and the tallest residence built to Passive House standards. The building is designed to reinforce the multidisciplinary research and collaboration at the core of the Cornell Tech mission, which combines the innovation of Silicone Valley and the financial power of Wall Street to transform the city’s economy. It drastically reduces energy consumption while creating a healthy and comfortable living environment for its residents.
