Join the Building Energy Exchange for a panel discussion on funding lighting retrofits with speakers from Willdan Energy Solutions, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Riverdale Osborne Towers, an affordable rental housing community in Brooklyn, underwent a massive LED lighting retrofit fully funded by Con Edison. CPC used their experience in affordable housing and community revitalization to propose the proper financial structure to preserve the property as affordable housing. Key upgrades were made to the building including removal of all communal area lighting and replacement with high efficient LED lamps and sensors. With the help of property managers and partners, they were able to transform the quality of housing for more than 1,500 residents.

The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center also underwent a broad LED retrofit. By engaging tenants through floor administrators prior to the project, the team was able to educate those impacted by the work about the the functions and operations of the new systems, including dimming, daylight harvesting, and other energy efficiency practices with annual cost saving of more than $170,000.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art lighting retrofit project was originally conceived as a safety improvement to the building out of a survey of skylight and laylight glazing. Upon scope development, it became clear there was an opportunity for energy savings by replacing the existing lighting with energy efficient lighting. They were able to replace nearly all obsolete or inefficient lighting fixtures and three circular laylights in the Great Hall of the MET Museum. The energy savings of the project made it eligible for funding through the City’s Accelerated Conservation and Efficiency (ACE) program that provides capital funding to GHG reducing projects in municipal buildings through a competitive process.
