Full video for "Climate Mobilization Act Series: Reimagining Envelopes" on March 31, 2021

Meeting the high-performance goals of tomorrow, whether energy codes that include performance targets or carbon emissions limits like Local Law 97, will require that most buildings implement energy efficiency upgrades, including looking at opportunities to improve their building envelopes. The benefits of improved envelopes are significant and range from greater interior comfort, to improved air quality and dramatic reductions in energy use and associated cost savings. However, examples of full envelope retrofits are limited.

Join the Building Energy Exchange, the New York City Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and the Natural Resources Defense Council for this presentation and discussion of the importance of envelope retrofits featuring two remarkable case studies. The projects featured represent the two primary types of envelope recladding; rainscreens, and exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS). The presentation will provide an overview of the application of each system, including the benefits of each, and how best to address common challenges.
