BE-Ex is proud to announce this exclusive Industry Leadership Council event: a discussion of the future of sustainability with award-winning authors Charles C. Mann and David Biello. Mann and Biello will discuss their most recent books, The Wizard and the Prophet and The Unnatural World: The Race to Remake Civilization in Earth’s Newest Age, in conversation with acclaimed environmental journalist, Andrew Revkin.
Charles C. Mann is a best-selling author and journalist, renowned for his book 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus, which won the 2006 National Academies Communication Award for best creative work aiding public understanding of topics in science, engineering or medicine. His latest book, The Wizard and the Prophet, illustrates the opposing perspectives of pioneering twentieth-century scientists Norman Borlaug and William Vogt and their conflicting visions for solving humanity’s greatest food, water, energy and climate change challenges.
David Biello is an award-winning environmental journalist, the science curator for TED, and a contributing editor for Scientific American. His recent book, The Unnatural World: The Race to Remake Civilization in Earth’s Newest Age, provides an enlightening “trip around the world to meet people working out new ways for humanity to live as well as survive” (The New York Times Book Review). Biello argues for the necessity of adaptation and innovation in the age of the Anthropocene, the newest geologic epoch in which humans have become the dominant influence on the environment.
Andy Revkin is an acclaimed writer and strategic adviser on media innovation at National Geographic Society. Prior to his work at National Geographic Society, Revkin was a senior reporter for climate at ProPublica and a longtime climate change and environment reporter at the New York Times, where he created of the Times’ Dot Earth blog. His latest book is Weather: An illustrated History: From Cloud Atlases to Climate Change.
