BE-Ex welcomes new Operations Associate, Paul Rivers to the team!

I am a geographer by trade and obsessed with all things built-environment. I received my education at CUNY Hunter and spent most of my time learning about the impacts of greenspace, public health needs, resiliency, climate change, storm surge, and sound policy on the urban form.

Coming from the Bronx, I believe that NYC is adaptable, resilient, and relies on the diversity and vibrancy of its residents!

1. Share your favorite energy factoid

Greenroofs have been proven to have measurable impacts reducing local air pollution, storm water loads, urban heat island, resident heat burden, and psychological stress! Talk about wearing a lot of hats!

2. What are you currently reading?

Winter Pasture: one woman’s journey with China’s Kazakh herders by Li Juan,
1Q87
by Haruki Murakami, and The Dream of the Red Chamber by Cao Xueqin (this book is super long).

3. What are some ways you reduce your carbon footprint at home?

I subscribe to Misfits Market and cook all kinds of organic veggies into my daily meals. One could say that I eat whatever is left in the box at the end of the week! I wash laundry cold and air-dry my clothes.
Unless its unbearably hot and humid – my A/C stays off! I love my window fan that can bring cool night air from Van Cortlandt Park.
