Passive, Massive: Workshop on PH in Large Buildings

Join Building Energy Exchange and Passive House Academy for a half-day workshop that will go beyond the “House” in Passive House and explore how the innovative standard applies to large buildings. With the majority of Passive House projects in the New York City region being relatively small residential projects, many have questions about the applicability of the standard to larger buildings. Although Passive House is certainly applicable to larger projects and a large variety of project types, these represent specific challenges.

The workshop will provide an overview of the full palette of building types which meet the exacting passive house standards. From multi-family apartment buildings to offices, schools, archives buildings, and much, much more.

Challenges particular to different building types will be highlighted. New buildings and retrofit case studies will be explored and the potential for application to New York demonstrated.

The workshop will be delivered by Kevin Brennan, Building Science Consultant and Trainer for Passive House Academy (PHA). Kevin is a Certified Passive House Tradesperson and holds a variety of certifications from BPI and ABAA. For the past 3 years, Kevin has been delivering the PHI certified passive house tradesperson courses in the Bronx at AEA’s hands-on passive house training facility. Most recently, Kevin led the Passive House details on NYC’s first historic certified EnerPhit project.
