Event Details
Join the WISE (Women in Sustainability & Energy) community for our monthly “Media Club” event. We’ll be discussing inclusive building and design through two podcasts: one on the importance of accessibility in the built environment, and one on gender biases in design. BE-Ex staff will kick off the conversation and help to facilitate an interactive discussion among attendees. We look forward to hearing from you–please come prepared to share thoughts on the following podcasts:
NYC: A Melting Pot for People of All Abilities with MOPD Comissioner, Victor Calise Victor Calise, Commissioner of the NYC Mayor’s Office of People with Disabilities (MOPD), describes the actions that he and his team have taken to help NYC become one of the most accessible cities in the US. In addition, the Comissioner reminds us that we need to take a human-centered approach, not just to design, but to life.
Invisible Women
Author of “Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men”, Caroline Criado Perez speaks on how data from women are often ignored and how this bakes in bias and discrimination in the things we design.
About the WISE Media Club
The “WISE Media Club” was developed in March 2020 as a creative way to keep the WISE (Women in Sustainability & Energy) community spirit alive and to facilitate remote interaction during this time of social distancing. This recurring, monthly media club will cover primarily female-developed podcasts, videos, and articles that touch on climate action, the built environment, and new challenges and opportunities created by the COVID pandemic.
The WISE Media Club is not a panel or presentation, rather an interactive forum. We hope all participants will come prepared with ideas & questions about the media item and will keep their cameras turned on, allowing for more fluid conversation between group members.
