During our second WISE Media Club event of the spring, we’ll be discussing two TED talks that explore the intersection of building design, ecology, public health, and community connection. BE-Ex staff will kick off the conversation and help to facilitate an interactive discussion among attendees. We look forward to hearing from you – please come prepared to share thoughts on the following videos:
Jessica Green: “We’re Covered in Germs. Let’s Design for That.”
Our bodies and homes are covered in microbes — some good for us, some bad for us. As we learn more about the germs and microbes who share our living spaces, TED Fellow Jessica Green asks: Can we design buildings that encourage happy, healthy microbial environments?
Jeanne Gang: “Buildings that Blend Nature and Cities”
A skyscraper that channels the breeze … a building that creates community around a hearth … Jeanne Gang uses architecture to build relationships. In this engaging tour of her work, Gang invites us into buildings large and small, from a surprising local community center to a landmark Chicago skyscraper. “Through architecture, we can do much more than create buildings,” she says. “We can help steady this planet we all share.”
About the WISE Media Club
The “WISE Media Club” was developed in March 2020 as a creative way to keep the WISE (Women in Sustainability & Energy) community spirit alive and to facilitate remote interaction during this time of self-quarantine. This recurring, monthly media club will cover female-developed podcasts, videos, and articles that touch on climate action, the built environment, and new challenges and opportunities created by the COVID pandemic. We’re excited to launch this new platform and look forward to seeing and hearing from the community.
The WISE Media Club is not a panel or presentation, rather an interactive forum. We hope all participants will come prepared with ideas & questions about the media item and will keep their cameras turned on, allowing for more fluid conversation between group members.
