Grab your beverage and snack of choice and meet us online for the next community conversation, on July 22nd from 6:00-7:00pm. (*Note: Space is limited to preserve a participation-based discussion format. Please notify us 24-hours in advance if you will be unable to attend.)

Event Details
Join WISE (Women in Sustainability and Energy) for our fourth “Media Club” event. We will be discussing two podcasts that explore what post-COVID-19 cities can, and possibly should, look like in terms of social and public health equity as relates to the built environment. BE-Ex staff will kick off the conversation and help to facilitate an interactive discussion among attendees. We look forward to hearing from you–please come prepared to share thoughts on the following podcasts:

1. TED Talks Daily: 3 Ways We Can Redesign Cities for Equity and Inclusion

Introduced by Elise Hu of TED Talks Daily and hosted by TED arts and design curator Chee Pearlman and head of curation Helen Walters, a framework for a new urban equity agenda is presented by Vishaan Chakrabarti, architect, urbanist, educator, and director of planning in the aftermath of 9/11. Examples of implementation in housing, transportation, and social and cultural infrastructure follow.

2. Affordable Housing Podcast: Addressing the Housing Crisis During the COVID-19 Pandemic with Assemblymember Marc Berman

Host Joanne Greene of Eden Housing speaks with Marc Berman, California State Assemblymember (D-24) in this podcast that further marries policy solutions for COVID-19 recovery with affordable housing to prevent increased homelessness (and vulnerability to climate and COVID) as a result of economic downturn.

About the WISE Media Club
The “WISE Media Club” was developed in March 2020 as a creative way to keep the WISE (Women in Sustainability & Energy) community spirit alive and to facilitate remote interaction during this time of social distancing. This recurring, monthly media club will cover female-developed podcasts, videos, and articles that touch on climate action, the built environment, and new challenges and opportunities created by the COVID pandemic. We’re excited to launch this new platform and look forward to seeing and hearing from the community.

The WISE Media Club is not a panel or presentation, rather an interactive forum. We hope all participants will come prepared with ideas & questions about the media item and will keep their cameras turned on, allowing for more fluid conversation between group members.
