Join us for a discussion of New York City’s latest advancements towards decarbonization, mandating all-electric new construction buildings, and how these changes fold into state-level initiatives and building compliance pathways.
On December 15, 2021, the New York City Council passed a bill requiring new construction buildings to install all-electric systems, starting at the end of 2023 for low-rise buildings (below seven stories), and by 2027 for larger buildings. Not only will all-electric new buildings mean fewer carbon emissions, but it will also have huge impacts on the health and wellbeing of indoor residents with less indoor air pollutant sources like gas stoves.
Panelists will discuss how this transition to electric systems in NYC impacts new construction, how this new bill aligns with future planning to comply with State and City climate goals, and the implications of this leap in the city’s decarbonization efforts for environmental justice, indoor air quality, and public health.
