Full video for "Building the Future: Sidewalk Labs Presents High Performance Buildings for Toronto" on July 10, 2019

BE-Ex is very excited to invite members of our Industry Leadership Council to this unique opportunity to hear from Charlotte Matthews, Director of Sustainability at Sidewalk Labs, on their innovative approaches to delivering high performance buildings at their highly anticipated Toronto waterfront project.  Sidewalk Labs has embarked on an ambitious urban innovation project, creating a new community that advances “precedent-setting levels of sustainability, affordability, mobility and economic opportunity.”

Going beyond high efficiency or carbon neutral, Sidewalk Labs (SWL) has set a goal of delivering a climate positive district.  The foundation of delivering more energy than is consumed by the district will be driving down demand, and for this, SWL has turned to Passive House for inspiration.  When completed, the Toronto project will be one of the largest clusters of “low load” buildings in the world.  To provide these dramatically reduced energy needs, SWL is exploring full electrification of buildings as well as geothermal energy systems and waste to energy technology, and their focus on affordability and sustainability has led them to explore modular, mass-timber construction systems.  The discovery phase of the project included studies of the design-to-occupancy performance gap, and we will benefit from a presentation of this analysis as well as how the completed projects are anticipated to integrate with a smart grid.

Rebecca Craft, founding Board Member of BE-Ex and Founder & Principal of Turncraft Advisors, will guide a discussion with Charlotte following the presentation.

We very much hope you will join us for this singular opportunity to hear from a leader within one of the most innovative companies in the world.
