Retrofitting for the Climate: CEO Bomee Jung on what it takes to make building decarbonization work for everyone
In this episode, Building Energy Exchange (BE-Ex) host Katie Schwamb chats with Bomee Jung, the co-founder and CEO of Cadence OneFive, a climate justice-focused public benefit corporation working to accelerate decarbonization of multifamily housing through innovative software. Bomee has been a strategic force in advancing sustainability and resiliency in New York City’s housing sector, in her current role at Cadence, previously as a leader at NYCHA and Enterprise Community Partners, and recently as the recipient of BE-Ex’s 2026 Women in Sustainability and Energy (WISE) Champion award.
Bomee traces a remarkable career spanning over two decades of NYC climate leadership – how her journey from affordable housing and sustainable leadership at NYCHA led to building her own climate tech company. Together, Katie and Bomee explore the barriers and risks facing building decarbonization, why procurement and regulatory compliance are some underestimated challenges, and how Cadence’s new tool, Momentum, helps building owners, consultants, and real estate stakeholders make faster, easier, and more efficient decisions.
The conversation also examines the role of technology in climate action, strategies for managing risks and opportunities for small businesses and community-based orgs, and Bomee’s experience leading in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
