What does it really take to decarbonize buildings in one of the most expensive, most elevated, and most climate-vulnerable regions in the country?

In this episode, Building Energy Exchange (BE-Ex) host Hailey Moll chats with Tara Stitzlein, the CEO of CORE (Community Office for Resource Efficiency) – a building decarbonization hub based in Basalt, Colorado, serving Pitkin, Eagle, and Garfield counties. Since as early as 1994, CORE has helped homeowners, businesses, and communities reduce energy use, electrify buildings, and prioritize emission reduction.

Tara reflects on her journey into the sustainability sector, the challenges and opportunities that shaped her career, and the path that ultimately led her to become the CEO. Tara and Hailey dig into how CORE integrates itself into building projects as an “energy advocate” and explore the unique barriers of working in a region where construction costs are high and the climate is harsh. The conversation also examines CORE’s role in the Building Performance Partnership (BPP)’s national network and looks into what growth and impact look like over the course of the next 5-10 years.
