The Future of Heat: Thermal Energy Networks in Stockholm and New York

This Climate Week, join BE-Ex, the Swedish Energy Agency, and NYSERDA for a timely discussion of thermal energy networks, as part of our International Pathways series. These networks present an innovative solution to dramatic carbon reduction through sharing heat, including repurposing wasted energy, over an optimized network.

Last year, Governor Hochul and the Public Service Commission announced an initiative to demonstrate innovative alternatives meeting buildings heating and cooling needs, directing Con Edison and other New York State utilities to develop thermal energy network pilot projects. Meanwhile, Stockholm has long been a frontrunner as a sustainability leader, implementing innovative thermal networks and waste heat recovery projects, including: “open district heating” (where customers can sell waste heat back into the thermal grid), unique business models, and large-scale carbon capture demonstration projects. Stockholm’s successes present a major opportunity for knowledge exchange and collaboration between New York and Sweden, reinforced by our closely aligned climate objectives.

Join this Climate Week exclusive conversation and live Q&A with these international leaders advancing these initiatives. Learn from recent Swedish successes and challenges, connect with the BE-Ex community, and network over coffee and small bites, at the Exchange in downtown Manhattan.
