The Value of View: Windows, Health & Productivity

More livable cities mean healthy, happy occupants with access to parks, shorter commutes, and active and healthy lifestyles. But with Americans spending over 90% of their lives inside buildings, creating easy access to outside views is a critical way of making buildings and cities healthier.

While daylighting can also save energy with proper management and lighting controls, balancing whole building energy analyses with occupant health and well-being goals can yield difficult trade-offs. Recently, ASHRAE 189 voted not to include requirements for window views, largely out of concern for increasing energy use. Is this a good thing?

Join BE-Ex for a presentation by Lisa Heschong, former Principal of Heschong Mahone Group, on the supporting research and a discussion of the barriers to designing buildings with better access to views.

SPEAKERS:
Lisa Heschong, FIES, formerly Principal of Heschong Mahone Group (HMG)
Additional speakers to be announced.
