Join Building Energy Exchange (BE-Ex) and the Swedish Energy Agency (SEA) for a timely discussion of thermal energy networks (TENs), as part of our International Pathways series. These networks present an innovative solution to dramatic carbon reduction through sharing heat, including repurposing wasted energy, over an optimized network. Following on our extremely popular 2023 TENs event, this session will explore advanced district energy system policies, regulation, technology, and how these systems can support building and neighborhood decarbonization.

In 2022, Governor Hochul and the Public Service Commission announced an initiative to demonstrate innovative alternatives meeting buildings heating and cooling needs, directing Con Edison and other New York State utilities to develop thermal energy network pilot projects. Governor Hochul’s new $1 billion Sustainable Future Program also includes over $200 million for thermal energy networks, advancing next-generation infrastructure. Meanwhile, Sweden has long been a frontrunner as a sustainability leader, implementing innovative thermal networks, waste heat recovery projects and unique collaborative business models. Home to the world’s largest low-temperature thermal energy network, pioneering Open District Heating marketplaces where customers can trade in excess heat and large-scale Bio-Energy Carbon Capture and Storage projects. Sweden’s successes present a major opportunity for knowledge exchange and collaboration with New York, reinforced by our closely aligned climate objectives.

Don’t miss this Climate Week exclusive conversation and live Q&A with these local, regional, and international leaders advancing these initiatives. Learn from recent Swedish successes and challenges, connect with the BE-Ex community, and network over coffee and small bites, at the Exchange in downtown Manhattan.
