On October 26th, the Building Performance Partnership held their first event on the Inflation Reduction Act and its impact on the building sector. Moderator Lotte Schlegel (Institute for Market Transformation) joined Rebecca Isacowitz (US Department of Energy) and Vincent Barnes (Alliance to Save Energy), detailing local applications and growth opportunities presented by this historic investment in climate-friendly buildings to nearly 300 viewers.

What is the Inflation Reduction Act?

Expanding upon the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which contributed $80 billion to climate-specific infrastructure, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) invests an additional $369 billion to combat the climate crisis, with focus areas including clean energy, manufacturing, electric vehicles, infrastructure, health and resiliency, job creation, and buildings.

The IRA includes provisions to fund significant investments in both new construction and existing buildings, targeting electrification and energy efficiency.

Who Qualifies for Funding?

Both homeowners and renters can qualify for tax incentives or rebates. Visit Rewiring America’s IRA Calculator to see whether you qualify.

Beyond the initial investment, the bill offers a transformative vision for the industry, targeting investment in communities historically excluded from the market. Among these strategic investments includes financial assistance and conservation credits for agricultural communities.
