Anatomy of an Energy Efficient Building Exhibit Goes Virtual

The Building Energy Exchange unveils an online, interactive edition of their recent exhibit, Anatomy of an Energy Efficient Building.  Originally debuted at their downtown Manhattan center of excellence, the exhibit examines New York City buildings, revealing their hidden systems and how they use – and often overuse – energy.

The online edition provides digital access to detailed insights on building systems, alongside efficiency solutions that help building owners turn information into action, reduce operating costs, lower emissions, and improve the efficiency of their buildings.

On May 4, 2020, the Building Energy Exchange (BE-Ex), New York City’s high-performance building center of excellence, announces the virtual debut of their recent exhibit, Anatomy of an Energy Efficient Building. Funded in part by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) through a Cleaner, Greener, Communities grant received in partnership with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, the exhibit reveals how common building systems use energy, identifies major opportunities to enhance the performance of these systems, and guides visitors to the tools and resources they need to get started with their own building efficiency projects.

On the interactive website, viewers can virtually navigate exhibit sections, including building system chapters with corresponding efficiency solutions. Within each system chapter—heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic hot water, lighting and plug loads, and the building envelope—viewers can expand individual elements to take a deeper dive into key areas of interest. Efficiency solutions, organized around each building system chapter, are collected into free, easily digestible packets, providing strategies for NYC building owners to improve efficiency, lower emissions, and increase tenant comfort.

The exhibit is set within the context of  New York City’s Climate Mobilization Act and New York state’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, historic climate action policies targeting greenhouse gas emissions. The Anatomy exhibit provides information and tools to help building owners comply with these ambitious mandates.

The Anatomy exhibit’s online edition is one of many virtual resources developed by Building Energy Exchange to keep the building energy efficiency community connected and informed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. It precedes a robust, interactive e-learning platform, to be released spring of 2020, that will further support Building Energy Exchange’s mission of connecting the real estate and design community to efficiency solutions through education and research.
