New York’s Housing Agencies on Climate Action

This Climate Week, join BE-Ex and NYSERDA for a lively conversation and Q&A with sustainability champions from New York’s public housing agencies, reporting out on recent efforts to decarbonize our affordable housing stock, while improving resident health, comfort, and safety.

New York’s housing agencies are no stranger to climate action. In the past three years, these agencies have stepped into industry leading efforts to drive decarbonization in the built environment and lead by example for New York State and New York City climate laws. New York Homes and Community Renewal’s Clean Energy Initiative was launched to support highly efficient, all electric new construction, adaptive reuse and existing building retrofits for low-income housing across the State. New York City Housing Authority has launched two Innovation Challenges, leveraging the agency’s purchasing power to spur innovation in the market for plug-and-play electric equipment, like induction stoves designed for standard 120-volt outlets, or easy-to-install window-mounted heat pumps. The HPD-NYSERDA Retrofit Electrification Pilot, launched in 2020 by NYC Housing Preservation & Development, provides much-needed financial support for electrification projects in both new construction and existing multifamily buildings.

Kick off this year’s Climate Week at an exclusive conversation and live Q&A with the industry leaders advancing these initiatives. Learn from recent successes and challenges, connect with the BE-Ex community, and network over small bites and drinks at the Exchange in downtown Manhattan.
